a beacon of mirth..

Wanna know a secret?
My best friend and little sister, Shelbie Jae Shill, is a poet.
Wanna know how I know?
Last October, a couple friends and I were brainstorming ideas of how I should ask Taylor to Preference. I wanted to incorporate stars, because star gazing is kind of “our thing.” Shelb, kind of jokingly but kind of not, said, “I’ll write you a sonnet that you can give to him!” We kind of laughed it off..until the next day at lunch when Shelbie handed me a sheet of notebook paper with her to die for handwriting on it. Written on the paper was a sonnet. Here is what it said..
Star Sonnet
Shelbie Jae Shill
The smiling night comes out to play it’s song,
A romance of nights sweet serenity
Plays through our minds and now we find no wrong
In stars which hold the night so pleasantly.
The stars are the haven I’ve found so dear:
Soft, sparkling diamonds spewed across the sky
Light up our eyes in a world full of fear,
But a world full of love, looking on high.
Night is a blanket, covering the earth:
And stars but a glitter, whispering fate.
They shine amongst all, a beacon of mirth,
And listening close, the whispers create
A sound so melodic, on this starred night
When everything fits, and everything’s right.
Did I cry when I read that? Yes. Tears. On my face. Shelbie, you have a gift. You really do. You are an incredibly talented writer, thank you for sharing this with me.
I love you forever, Shmelb.
Love, Abigail

My Best Friend..

Urban Dictionary’s definition of “best friend”: A best friend is not only someone you have a good time with, it is also someone you believe you can trust your life with. A best friend is the first person you call when the most amazing things happen in your life, and when the most horrific incidents happen. A best friend is the person you will always remember no matter what comes about. A best friend is almost like real family, a best friend gives the opinion you usually care most about. A best friend is the one who tells you the things you absolutely need to hear regardless of whether you want to hear it or not. A best friend is the person you usually can be around always and never get sick of. A best friend is the one who will forgive you always, even when you've screwed up so bad. A best friend is the person you care about most.
my definition: KALYNN EVE PETERSEN.
I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world because I get to call Kalynn Petersen my best friend. She is exactly that. Kalynn IS the person I call when the stupidest or most exciting things happen. She’s the girl I trust my life, and every one of my secrets with. She’s the girl that is basically my sister and my family sees her as such. She almost always knows what is best for me and is never afraid to give her honest opinion. She understands the way I think and understands the things I do the way no one else does. I love this girl with everything in me. This is our story.

Kalynn and I met when we were just little sophomores in high school. She had just moved up from St George and into my ward. We were kind of dorks when I was 15 and she was 16, but what sophomore girls aren’t? We went to every single football game and had girls night every other weekend. It wasn’t long before we were the best of friends.

We love to swing on swings in dresses and getting caught in rainstorms is definitely a favorite past-time.

Sometimes, Kalynn dresses up like a nerd. It’s okay, I love her anyway.
I had the most blessed opportunity to go sledding with Kalynn for her first time EVER. Too fun.
Also, we like spooning. Don’t judge.

We LOVE California and theme parks and the beach and roller coasters and sunshine and warmth.
On one of our Cali trips, we met Charlie Chaplin. Geez louise, the mans a creep!
We only got one picture at prom together and that's it. Good thing we smiled and stuff..

This one day, we graduated from High School.

We went to Italy. TOGETHER. We ate a whole lot of gelato and saw so many neat things.
That’s us at the Colosseum. How cool are we?

I think it's
safe to
say that
we are 2
of the more
attractive people
you will
ever meet.
EVER.

I love you, Kalynny Poo. I really really do. I'm so glad you're at SUU with me. I can't wait until I get married and you're my maid of honor. I can't wait until we force our husbands to be best friends, and our kids to call each of us aunt. I can't wait until we're 80 years old and we sit in our rocking chairs together and read the Blenders, wondering who the heck Taylor and Jake are and laughing our heads off at all our teenage drama. I know that God knew I needed you in my life. I'm sorry you had to come up to this hellish iceland so that you could be my best friend. Heavens knows what I would do without you. I love you forever, Kay.

LOVE always

falling whistles.

Do you like the TOMS program? If you do, check this out. You’ll love it.

Gunmetal

The other day, I read a friends post about Falling Whistles. It’s a program helping kids who have been effected by the war. She suggested I go to the sight and check it out, so I did. I watched the movie and read the journal and cried. It is absolutely unreal. Lately, I’ve been so into humanitarian trips and programs and such and I was so happy to find about this program.
In the journal, it says:
THEIR SOLE DUTY IS TO MAKE ENOUGH NOISE TO
SCARE THE ENEMY AND THEN RECEIVE - WITH THEIR BODIES -
THE FIRST ROUND OF BULLETS.
Buy a whistle and the proceeds go to support and advocate for war-affected kids. Wear the whistle, share the story, and speak up for them. Together, we’ll become the voice of a growing coalition to end our world’s biggest war.
If you want to reach out a helping hand, please please take half a second and check this out at www.fallingwhistles.com. Honest I promise, you won’t regret it.
