happy turkey day..

Happy Thanksgiving!
I absolutely love Thanksgiving. It is one of my most favorite holidays out of the entire year! I especially love it this year because it’s been my first year away from home, so this day filled with food gave me a really great reason to come back! I also especially love it this year because we’re doing the big dinner at our house with my Papa’s side! 38 of some of my favorite people will invade our hour in about an hour and a half and I’m super excited!

This year I am thankful for:
  • My family : They’re there through the thick and thin. I love them!
  • My parentals : They’re over the moon amazing. They support me and bless my life in a new way every single day.
  • A new sister in law! : Heather is the perfect addition to our little family & I absolutely love her!
  • My bed : [duh, it’s on my list ever year..] I love my bed. Period.
  • SUU : For giving me an education, a scholarship, a place to live, and a great experience!
  • Old friends : I grew up with the greatest people and I’m so glad I get to keep them close! This year I’m especially grateful for Kalynn Petersen, Josh Reynolds, Lauren Jones, Taylor Lindsey, Alyssa Jensen, Shelbie Shill, Matt Finn, Michelle Perry, Matthew Meyers, & Stephen Hill.
  • New friends! : These people have blessed my life in a million different ways. I am so lucky to know them. Emily Frampton, Cody Balderston, Trent Butler, Jeremy Leonard, Brody Fausett, Kevin Carrington, Kaleb Hurst, TJ Nelson, Stetson Clark, Kaitlin Kelley, Courtney Dumont, & Kylee Greenhalgh.
  • A good job : I wish I still had it! I was so lucky to land the job that I did this summer. It was the greatest learning experience and too much fun.
  • Mike & Debi: My wonder aunt and uncle! They have been my lifesavers living 3 blocks away!
  • My car! : Little Pearl. Life would be rough without my little vehicle.
  • Music : New music, old music, viola music, church music, hip hop, rap, alternative, techno, country. ALL music.
  • Missionaries!! : All of them out there, but especially a few of my best friends Alec Garner, Josh Stewart, Perry Nicol, Austin Woodfield, Matt Finn, and Josh Reynolds. You boys blow me away!
  • My best friend : She’ll always be my best friend.
  • My roommate : Kelso keeps life fun. She reminds me to breath and gives me massages when I need them. She’s the bomb.
  • My Bishopric: They’re old and they’re funny, but they’re inspiring and truly men of God.
  • My RA : What would we do without Sam Taylor?!
  • Ambassadors : They give me a break from crazy every day life. PA’s is filled with some of my greatest friends and some of the funnest people alive.
But most importantly, this year I am grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ. I know that He suffered in the garden and died on the cross for me. He atoned for my sins so that I can repent and live with Him again one day. He is there every day to comfort me and help me through my hard times, but rejoice with my in my accomplishments and happy days. I’m grateful for His gospel, for the scriptures, for the organization of  His church.

Happy Thanksgiving, my friends! I hope you have a lot to be
thankful for this year, I know I sure do!!

a beacon of mirth..

Wanna know a secret?
My best friend and little sister, Shelbie Jae Shill, is a poet.
Wanna know how I know?
Last October, a couple friends and I were brainstorming ideas of how I should ask Taylor to Preference. I wanted to incorporate stars, because star gazing is kind of “our thing.” Shelb, kind of jokingly but kind of not, said, “I’ll write you a sonnet that you can give to him!” We kind of laughed it off..until the next day at lunch when Shelbie handed me a sheet of notebook paper with her to die for handwriting on it. Written on the paper was a sonnet. Here is what it said..
Star Sonnet
Shelbie Jae Shill
The smiling night comes out to play it’s song,
A romance of nights sweet serenity
Plays through our minds and now we find no wrong
In stars which hold the night so pleasantly.
The stars are the haven I’ve found so dear:
Soft, sparkling diamonds spewed across the sky
Light up our eyes in a world full of fear,
But a world full of love, looking on high.
Night is a blanket, covering the earth:
And stars but a glitter, whispering fate.
They shine amongst all, a beacon of mirth,
And listening close, the whispers create
A sound so melodic, on this starred night
When everything fits, and everything’s right.
Did I cry when I read that? Yes. Tears. On my face. Shelbie, you have a gift. You really do. You are an incredibly talented writer, thank you for sharing this with me.
I love you forever, Shmelb.
Love, Abigail
