At 10:00 on Saturday morning, President Eyring welcomed the world to the 181st semiannual conference.
The choir sang, and a prayer was said.
And then Elder Richard G Scott stood.
And blew me away.
He spoke of the importance of the scriptures and of the role they should play in our lives.
He referred to them as "Packets of light that illuminate our minds and give guidance from on high."
They can be "Stalwart friends not limited by geography or calendar."
A "Foundation of truth that can be awakened by the Holy Ghost."
They can be viewed as a "Filing cabinet of friends that you can call on anywhere and at anytime."
"A memorized scripture becomes an enduring friend that s not weakened with the passage of time."
They are the "Motivation for needed change."
He quoted scriptures and "testified with his soul" of their truth.
Thank you, Elder Scott, for this powerful message, it was one I desperately needed to hear.
So many of my prayers were answered in his 16 minute talk.
So many worries were hushed and questions given answers.
I loved this weekends conference.
I was blessed by the messages spoken and the lessons I learned.
I am anxious to re-read the talks that I particularly liked,
And I can't wait to read the talks I may or may not have fallen asleep for.
I'm so excited about the temple being built 5 blocks away from home.
I'll get to pass it on my way to school every single day!
I'm also so excited for the temple in Paris. I'm sure Matthew just freaked. :)
I'm super happy for the people of Africa and Wyoming,
And love the incredible sense of humor of President Monson.
The church is true, kids. No questions asked.
